"I Make My Own Sunshine" became popular after being featured on a Lowes commercial.
The singer and writer of the song lives in Franklin.
I sat down with Alyssa Bonagura to learn more about the song and the famous family in which she gets her talent!
24 year old Alyssa Bonagura was thrown into the life of music at an early age!
"I was 3 weeks old and on a bus. Been touring since I was born" says Alyssa.
Her mom and dad were part of a hit group in the 80's and 90's called Baillie and the Boys.
Despite their success, at first, mom and dad weren't exactly supportive of Alyssa's love for music!
"I would say can you teach me how to play guitar and she would be like no, you are not doing it" remembers Alyssa
They caved and Alyssa ended up attending college at the Paul McCartney
School in London, where she studied engineering and sound technology.
It's also where she wrote the song that kick started her career.
"It
was raining a lot and I was in my apartment and it was freezing and I
remember the day before my friend and I were walking down the street and
she said that it's alright Alyssa, we make our own sunshine. I wrote
the chorus in England and thought it was a horrible song i thought it
was stupid"
The song grew on Alyssa and her publishing company loved it, pushing it into the hands of Lowes!
"To get this commercial this year was one of the best thing that's ever happened to me" she says.
Before television, the song was released by an Australian artists and made it to the top ten on charts there.
And in the coming months, Jesse James is expected to release it on her country album.
As for her own career, Alyssa already has an album ready to go.
"It's a pop record. Ive been wanting to make one since a kid. I grew up with country parents but listened to pop all my life
Eager and waiting - to make her own sunshine!
"I
don't wanna put it out yet only because I think it deserves bigger
distribution than I can do on my own.So, if you are watching, I need a
record company to help" she laughs.

Korean War vets gets diploma, points to benefit

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Tullahoma native William Milton Duncan now has his high school diploma. Duncan had worked for a few years in the 1940s to help his family and was preparing to enter high school when he was drafted for the Korean War.
He was honorably discharged at the rank of corporal and went to work in manufacturing, retiring two years ago at the age of 82.
Duncan now lives in Nashville. He received his diploma Wednesday from Veterans Affairs Commissioner Many-Bears Grinder, Education Commissioner Kevin Huffman and Sen. Douglas Henry.
Duncan said getting his diploma was not about recognition, but was a way to raise awareness about a little known state benefit. The provision grants diplomas to veterans who had to forego education for military service.
