WBFF Fox 45 :: American Idol's Iconic Mic Makes its Way Through Nashville, FOX17 Studio - Kelly Sutton
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Wednesday night was the guys' turn on American Idol, but next week it will be Music City's time to shine for a moment. Nashville will be spotlighted in the Idol Across America Relay. Wednesday the show's iconic mic made its way through Nashville and the FOX17 studio! American Idol has been gracing our tv screens for 12 seasons. This year they are showing their appreciation to the fans and former idols with a relay of the idol microphone across America. Wednesday morning the Nashville leg of the tour started in our studios.

"We started in New York at the end of last week," says American Idol's David Tackel. "We are here in Nashville, and it's really exciting to be in a music city like Nashville. It's really cool."

Also really cool, Kelly Sutton had a chance to be a part of the relay, taking the microphone from our studios to Music Row! After the radio station, the microphone found its way into the hands of fans and made stops on Broadway, the Grand Ole Opry and Tootsies. Watch for Nashville to be showcased as the relay ends in L.A. The mic will be presented to Ryan Seacrest to start the show March 13. There is a GPS tracker in the microphone, so if you want to keep track of it in real time, go to Fox17.com and look under FOX LINKS.

Memphis libraries seeking funding
May 25, 2013 13:07 GMT

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- The public library system in Memphis is hoping to secure $2.9 million to add employees and increase its collection.

The Memphis Daily News (http://bit.ly/19BANxH) reports the Memphis Public Library & Information Center cites the figures as part of its strategic plan.

A study by the Friends of the Library and the Memphis Library Foundation found that during the past five years, the system's budget has been cut 21 percent and hours were reduced 20 percent.

The goal of the new funding would be to add 47 employees to the 18-location library system and increase the collections budget to $2 million from less than $1 million.

Library director Keenon McCloy says the plan is a "roadmap for the future."
