Predators season ticket holders have a better idea of what's going to happen to their hard-earned money if the lockout carries into the regular season, after Thursday's announcement by the Predators organization.
Late September is usually a time to get excited about Smashville but for season ticket holders like Curtiss Fazilat, the NHL lockout has turned cheers into groans.
"It"s a bummer, Fazilat said. Our season tickets landed [Thursday} at home. My wife called and said, 'the tickets are here,' and we've got no games to go to."
Earlier in the week the NHL announced preseason games would be canceled through the end of September. Then the Preds announced season ticket holders that pay in increments would not be billed again until the conflict is resolved.
"I think they pretty much have to do that," Fazilat said. "They can't continue to collect money if everything is at a standstill right now."
Since the lockout started, fans have not really known what to expect. Then on Thursday, they got the answers they were looking for.
In an email sent to season ticket holders, the league says fans have two options.
In option number one, they can receive credits for the value of any games that are canceled plus fan loyalty bonus credits.
Those credits can be used to buy Preds merchandise, playoff tickets, to renew season tickets for next season or food and drinks at Bridgestone.
"My kids don't eat until they get to the arena so it's a spendy night when we go so a credit wouldn't be so bad nor would playoff ticket reservations," Fazilat said.
Fans can also choose a refund for cancelled games, but aren't eligible for the bonus credits. In either case, Fazilan says the announcement is a step in the right direction.
"Give us an out if that's what we elect because I'm sure there will be a lot of extremely disappointed fans but give us an option," Fazilat said. "If you've got an option then we know you're willing to work with us and it does ease some of the pain."
The Predators organization says fans that choose the refund option won't actually get the refund until the NHL knows exactly how many games are cancelled. You can find more specific details about these refund options by visiting the Fox Links section of this website.

2 appellate court judges are stepping down

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Two Tennessee appellate court judges have notified Gov. Bill Haslam that they will not run for another term on the bench in the August 2014 retention election.
Patricia J. Cottrell, a judge on the Court of Appeals, and Joseph M. Tipton, who sits on the Court of Criminal Appeals bench, will both leave after September of next year.
The announcements come after the state legislature left Tennessee without a way to replace judges who step down or die when a commission expires at the end of next month.
Members of the soon-to-be-defunct Judicial Nominating Commission will make recommendations for replacements to give to Haslam before the panel expires. Haslam will appoint the replacements from those recommendations.
