WBFF Fox 45 :: Breaking News: School Kids Exposed to Carbon Monoxide
Students had to be moved to a safe part of the building at Jo Byrns school in Cedar Hill Friday afternoon.

The reason was a carbon monoxide scare caused by an unlikely source.

District Spokesperson Jim Bellis says the problem was traced to a gas powered pump maintenance crews used to clear water under the building.

No one is sure how it got into the ventillation system.

"It's a first apparently.  It's something they've done in the past without any issue.  That has been curtailed, that is not gonna happen again," said Bellis.

The gas didn't send anyone to the hospital but 65 students experienced some symptoms.

Neely Bibee was among them.

"Yeah my head was hurting 1st block, wasn't bad," said Bibee.

Plenty of parents also picked up their children early.

Brandy Earheart was one of them but she says so far her daughter hasn't shown any symptoms.

"We'll just keep an eye on them.  If they have a headache or a stomache ache or anything like that we'll get them checked out," said Earheart.

Haslam's chief deputy Claude Ramsey to retire
June 19, 2013 16:41 GMT

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Gov. Bill Haslam says chief deputy Claude Ramsey is retiring at the end of August to spend more time with his family in Chattanooga.

The Republican governor said in a news release on Wednesday that the 70-year-old Ramsey has been integral to his administration on key initiatives that include civil service reform, economic development efforts, workforce development training and improved operation of state government.

Ramsey was elected to the General Assembly in 1972 where he served four years in the House. He was Hamilton County's mayor for 16 years.

His last day on the job is August 31.
