WBFF Fox 45 :: Changes Expected to Metro Schools - Eric Alvarez
The Metro School District is planning major changes to its central office in an effort to raise academic performance.

School officials are not commenting on the details yet, but a source within Metro government is.

The source says the district plans to create the brand new position of chief academic officer, who will be second in command to schools director Jesse Register.

The source also tells Fox 17 the district will consolidate the finance and human resource departments under a new chief operating officer who will oversee that combined unit.

Metro Schools narrowly missed the cut for a $40 Million federal Race to the Top grant last month, but the source says the move to restructure is more about creating better accountability and better achievement and not about saving money.

The district and the Metro Council plan to announce more details Wednesday morning.
