Davidson County prosecutors Monday announced they will not proceed with the prosecution of criminal charges against Tennessee State University professor Jane Davis.
Davis was charged with disorderly conduct in August after being led from a meeting between T-S-U's faculty senate and university administrators in handcuffs.
Doctor Davis was at odds with the university's interim president Portia Sheilds over allegations of improper grade changes. Davis, who was chair of the TSU faculty senate at the time, went public with allegations of impropriety sparking a state senate investigation. That was followed by efforts to remove Davis from her leadership post.
Doctor Davis says she was trying to answer allegations by Dr. Shields in a faculty senate meeting at the time of her arrest.
Davis no longer faces any penalty for disorderly conduct, a class B misdemeanor in Tennessee. An investigation into the grade changes concluded they were adjusted to address a mistake made by the university.

Houston brother will be his own attorney in court

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A Roane County man will face federal gun violation charges next month without an attorney.
The Knoxville News Sentinel (http://bit.ly/17VlXpM ) reported Rocky Joe Houston will represent himself on a charge of possession of a gun by a felon.
The charge came after Houston earlier represented himself in state court on charges stemming from a police chase. He was convicted of evading arrest and reckless endangerment.
Houston and his brother, Leon Houston, were tried, but not convicted, in the 2006 shooting deaths of a Roane County deputy and his ride-along companion.
In federal court, Rocky Joe Houston is claiming the officer who charged him with the felony had no legal authority.
