A little snow wasn't going to stop crews that fought through the biting wind from putting up the Bash on Broadway stage Saturday.
"In spite of the weather we're a little bit ahead of schedule," said Butch Spyridon, president of the Nashville Convention and Visitor's Bureau. "The crew has been outstanding this year."
Spyridon said last year downtown hotels sold 21,000 room nights on New Year's Eve, generating between $5 Million and $10 Million dollars into the city.
"It puts people to work," Spyridon said. "It puts parking attendance, wait staff bartenders."
But the bash on Broadway isn't the only big event happening New Year's Eve. An estimated 55,000 football fans are expected to turn out for the Vanderbilt vs. NC State clash in the Music City Bowl right across the river at LP Field.
Saturday afternoon, those fans are already starting to show up downtown.
"We've had people since Thursday swarming in here already so it's boosted us a ton," said Will Swint, who works at Legends Gift Shop on Broadway.
Swint said the big weekend is a much-welcome business boost, because the NHL lockout has made downtown Nashville businesses go without 20 Predators home games set for Bridgestone arena that were never played.
"All the stuff that goes on downtown, is great because it gives us jobs, Swint said. "It's been a little bit of a slower year than normal so it's boosting it up and we all need it down here."
Which is why Spyridon says it's so important the Bash on Broadway keeps those tourism dollars coming.
"This event becomes more important this year to drive the out of town crowd," Spyridon said. "Expect it to be the best and the biggest yet, and then we'll top it next year."

Tishomingo County voters OK beer, alcohol sales
May 22, 2013 23:38 GMT
IUKA, Miss. (AP) -- Tishomingo County is the latest Mississippi jurisdiction to legalize alcohol sales.
Voters approved the sale of liquor, wine and beer Tuesday, reports the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal (http://bit.ly/13JCcix).
It wasn't clear referendums would pass until affidavit ballots were counted Wednesday.
With more than half Tishomingo County's voters casting ballots, legalizing alcohol passed by 42 votes, while legalizing beer and light wine passed by 73. The county borders Alabama and Tennessee.
Lawmakers legalized liquor at a proposed resort at the county's Bay Springs Lake in 2010, but it wasn't built.
Greene County voters legalized beer sales last year, while Corinth, New Albany and Senatobia have legalized alcohol sales under a 2012 law that allows cities to hold votes.
Mississippi has 13 remaining counties that allow no beer or alcohol sales.
