"Today, we are announcing that we are conducting a comprehensive review of the design and production of the Boeing 787," says Transportation Secretary Ray Lahood.
At the heart of the review is the airplaine's electrical system. Earlier this week, a Dreamliner caught fire while parked at Boston's Logan Airport, but while the government is investigating, regulators maintain it is still safe to fly.
"Nothing we have seen would indicate that this airplane is not safe," says FAA Administrator Michael Huerta. "We identify a safety problem, we will take appropriate action."
While the plane is still in the air, this is just the latest setback for Boeing and the Dreamliner. During production and development, the company faced several delays before the jet even got on the runway. Still, the jet is seen as the future of the aviation industry. It is one of the most advanced passenger jets ever produced, using technology ranging from carbon fiber and lithium ion batteries to reduce weight and increase fuel efficiency.
