WBFF Fox 45 :: Fans Celebrate 106 Years of Vandy vs. Vols - Eric Alvarez
The Vanderbilt Commodores came away with a big 41-18 win over the Tennessee Vols in the 106th meeting between the two teams, but the tradition is more than just one game.

The rivalry is so big it can pit friends against friends and even husband against wife and there was so much energy surrounding this it that the fans couldn't wait for kickoff to start celebrating.

Whether they wore black or orange, they went to the stadium as early as Saturday morning to tailgate before the big matchup.

"This is a very electric game," said Matthew Lascara, Vanderbilt fan.

It was the 106th time the two teams met on the gridiron, and every year the game draws tens of thousands of fans and alumni from across the country.  It's a tradition that brings friends together but leaves some families split, like husband and wife Tom and Charlotte Ryan.

"I cheer for Vandy," Charlotte said.  "He cheers for UT."

But they do agree that this matchup features a tale of two coaches: on one sideline, there's the polarizing Derek Dooley, which many Vols fans would like to see replaced.

"I know he's on the cutting line here but it's been a tough season this year," Tom Ryan said.

And on the other is James Franklin, who's been working to change the football culture at Vanderbilt and energize the fan base.

"It's a new brand of football, Charlotte Ryan said. "He's really got everybody fired up.  The team is playing great."

Rebar finishing will add 40 jobs in Knox County
May 21, 2013 11:13 GMT

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Another 40 jobs are coming to Knox County as Gerdau (gair-DOW') expands its steel reinforcement bar plant.

The Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development says the new facility will apply finishing services to rebar now made at the company's Lonsdale mill.

TDEC Commissioner Bill Hagerty and Gerdau officials announced the expansion on Monday, saying the plant will have the capacity to finish about 120,000 tons of steel per year.

Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett said it was good to see a vacant building in the WestBridge Business Park be put back into industrial use.
