WBFF Fox 45 :: Fatal Crash One of 59 in Rutherford Co. - Eric Alvarez

Tennessee highway patrol says 41-year-old Bryan Delk of Columbia, TN was killed after the FedEx he was driving  crashed into another vehicle on Interstate
24 near the exit to S. Church St.
Saturday morning.

Fedex officials declined to be interviewed, but released a short statement through spokesperson Scott Fiddler, who said, "our hearts go out to all those involved.
We are cooperating with authorities."

The driver of the other vehicle was not hurt.

That crash was by far the most serious but it wasn't the only one in Rutherford Co. Saturday morning.

"We had calls from all over the county," said Lisa Marchesoni, spokesperson for the Rutherford Co. Sheriff's Office.

Marchesoni said the department received 59 calls of
weather-related crashes in a three and a half hour period.

"We had extra officers, off duty deputies came in, and school resource officers," Marchesoni said.
"
It was a little chaotic for a while"

But it was even more chaotic for the midstate drivers that ended up on the side of the road and the tow truck drivers that worked all morning to get them out.

It was a hectic morning with the weather conditions the way they were, said Brian Pruitt of Barrett's Garage and Wrecker Service on W. College St.

Pruitt said they normally respond to ten or fifteen calls in a 24-hour period, but they'd already had 10 by mid-morning Saturday, and said the winter weather is just as dangerous for them.

"The weather affects us the same as it does everyone else," Pruitt said.  "It just makes it kind of difficult getting to them and somewhat stressful
trying to get everything covered without making mistakes yourself."

Pruitt says small businesses like this one could always use more customers, but says for families,
sometimes it s safer to just stay home.

Miss. chooses new firm to run Woodville prison
May 18, 2013 20:50 GMT

WOODVILLE, Miss. (AP) -- Mississippi officials have picked a new company to run the Wilkinson County Correctional Facility.

Utah-based Management and Training Corp. announced Friday that the Mississippi Department of Corrections has chosen it to run the 1,000-bed prison starting July 1, the Natchez Democrat reports (http://bit.ly/10MvOGv).

Corrections Corporation of America, based in Nashville, Tenn., had run the prison since 1998. MTC says it will keep "the vast majority" of employees.

MTC will get a five-year contract to run the prison with two one-year options. Last year, officials chose MTC to take over East Mississippi Correctional Facility, the Walnut Grove Correctional Facility and the Marshall County Correctional Facility from the GEO Group. MTC won 10-year contracts for each.

CCA still runs the Tallahatchie County Correctional Facility and the Adams County Correctional Center in Mississippi.
