"The greatest thing about a harmonica it's the closest thing to a human voice to me, than the other instruments" says McCoy.
While a lot of people think they can play the tiny wind instrument,
believe it or not, these guys are two of only a handful of professional
harmonica players in music city!
"There are probably 9 or 10 harmonica players, that's about it" says McCoy.
That's because playing is a lot harder you may think, "It is a simple
instrument to blow make a chord and then suck in and make another chord,
so you can play simple music right away, but once you start trying to
sophisticate and get techinqiues like bends and things that makes it
cool, then you are talking about dedication, obsession, hard work" says
Buddy Greene.
Charlie tells us about when he got his hands
on one at the age of eight, "I saw an ad in a comic book, it said you
too can play harmonica in 7 days - 50 cents and a box top" recalls
McCloy.
Since then he's played on just about every major
album that's come out of Nashville that you could think of. Greene
started playing a little later in life, but quikcly picked up the craft
and now joins the likes of pros like McCoy. This Saturday you can hear
them play together at Middle Tennessee's first ever harmonica festival.
"In
some ways I think harmonicas, we players start feeling like step
children after a while, because there aren't enough" laughs Greene.
For hours, music fans will get to enjoy all styles of playing and see just how much talent goes in to it.
"People if they come out, they will be amazed at what they can do with theese little instrument" says McCoy.
The
seven hour outdoor celebration kicks off at 3pm Saturday at the Mid
Pointe Center Adjacent Field in Fairview. The event is rain or shine and
is FREE!

Miss. chooses new firm to run Woodville prison
May 18, 2013 20:50 GMT
WOODVILLE, Miss. (AP) -- Mississippi officials have picked a new company to run the Wilkinson County Correctional Facility.
Utah-based Management and Training Corp. announced Friday that the Mississippi Department of Corrections has chosen it to run the 1,000-bed prison starting July 1, the Natchez Democrat reports (http://bit.ly/10MvOGv).
Corrections Corporation of America, based in Nashville, Tenn., had run the prison since 1998. MTC says it will keep "the vast majority" of employees.
MTC will get a five-year contract to run the prison with two one-year options. Last year, officials chose MTC to take over East Mississippi Correctional Facility, the Walnut Grove Correctional Facility and the Marshall County Correctional Facility from the GEO Group. MTC won 10-year contracts for each.
CCA still runs the Tallahatchie County Correctional Facility and the Adams County Correctional Center in Mississippi.
