"That's exactly what I thought," Arnold said. "Take me personally out of it, just the office of sheriff, for someone to try to blackmail a sheriff for any reason is to me dumb."
The charges stem from a series of threatening emails Arnold received between 1:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m. Monday.
"If I don't get a job you can bet the whole county budget, that this information will end up on the front page," one email read.
The sender, Arnold says, is Lehew, a former detention deputy who, according to official documents was dismissed last November for missing work and performance issues.
The emails suggest Lehew s ex-husband, Will Lehew, a current corporal in the department, had unfairly been given a promotion after failing a drug test.
The emails also suggest Arnold turned a blind eye, and the sender demands a county job, or threatens to take that information to the media.
Arnold says the allegations are untrue.
Lehew is charged with one count of extortion, and released on a $2,500 dollar bond. The former deputy is scheduled to appear in court February 27th.

Couple's bodies found in their Blount County home
May 20, 2013 20:14 GMT
LOUISVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- The Blount (blunt) County sheriff's office says preliminary results of autopsies on the bodies of a couple found dead in their home in Louisville (LEW'-ihs-vil) show their deaths are consistent with murder-suicide.
Marian O'Briant said in an email that it appears 54-year-old Steven Adkins shot 53-year-old Rebecca Adkins, then shot himself.
O'Briant said a family member found the bodies Sunday night. It wasn't clear how long they had been dead.
