WBFF Fox 45 :: Garth Brooks Among New Hall of Fame Inductees

A country music icon is among the three newest members of the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Fans lined the street to welcome Garth Brooks, Connie Smith, and "Pig" Robbins Sunday night.

The three inductees were recognized during the museum's medallion ceremony.

Connie Smith is a celebrated female vocalist.

Pig Robbins is an accomplished session pianist.

Garth Brooks is an international superstar.

We spoke to all three just before they were inducted into the Hall of Fame.

"I'm so proud for my family. I had no idea that they would be as excited as they are, and my family, and my friends, and the fans that have wanted me here for so long, and I'm really proud to be here and thankful to be here," says Connie Smith.

"It makes me feel great to be in there with my heroes that are already in there, people that I worked with for many years, and to finally be accepted into the association is great," says Hargus "Pig" Robbins.

"I still don't believe it and probably won't, but I saw Roy Clark wearing one of those medallions, that's pretty cool. So you get to put one of those around your neck, that ought to be pretty neat," says Garth Brooks.

Brooks was inducted in the modern era category. Smith is part of the veteans era, and Pig Robbins was recognized in the recording musician category.

With the three new members, there are now 118 inductees in the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Houston brother will be his own attorney in court
June 18, 2013 13:02 GMT

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A Roane County man will face federal gun violation charges next month without an attorney.

The Knoxville News Sentinel (http://bit.ly/17VlXpM ) reported Rocky Joe Houston will represent himself on a charge of possession of a gun by a felon.

The charge came after Houston earlier represented himself in state court on charges stemming from a police chase. He was convicted of evading arrest and reckless endangerment.

Houston and his brother, Leon Houston, were tried, but not convicted, in the 2006 shooting deaths of a Roane County deputy and his ride-along companion.

In federal court, Rocky Joe Houston is claiming the officer who charged him with the felony had no legal authority.
