WBFF Fox 45 :: Gruen Family Gives Thanks
When we first introduced you to little Piper Gruen, she was 7 months old and only weighed ten pounds

That was a major milestone that day for the micro preemie. She was born at 24 weeks at 2 pound 6 ounces. Mom, Marnie could not hold her for the first five weeks of her life. This is her actual hand print your thumb was the size of her actual hands.

And today Piper Gruen is playing. A bustling, beautiful three year old.

“We were really up against some incredible odds and as you can see she's beat almost all of them I think she’s incredible,” said Mrs. Gruen.

The Bellevue girl has also surpassed all of her milestones and more!

Piper has had physical and occupational and speech therapy and just when they turn 3 they tested and she's tested out of all of them, she's amazing, she's really amazing.

Dad, Phillip remembers that feeling Thanksgiving week three years ago... when the day finally came to bring little Piper home.

“When they hand a child to you that's right over four pounds and say have a good time it's good,” said Mr. Gruen. “Like she if you can't describe it was so tiny. I mean I could hold her in my hand not like a normal baby. It’s like super tiny.”

The Gruen's had Piper after years of infertility and the loss of preterm twins.

“I'm thankful she got a chance and I'm thankful that she's in our lives. She's absolutely wonderful and now she has a little sister so we're thankful for her too,” said Mrs. Gruen.

“You come out and you're stronger and you appreciate what you have because it took a lot to get it,” Mr. Gruen.

Today, they love her tenacity and her independence though sometimes, she does need a little help.

“Yeah fix my dress, there you go that's what I’m thankful for more than anything in the world right there,” added Mr. Gruen.

The Gruen's want to give back to the March of Dimes for all it did to help them in their time of need. They are holding a fundraiser at the Nashville Dance Center where your little one can meet a favorite princess or even a knight. It will be December 2nd from three to five.Gruen Family Gives Thanks

Couple's bodies found in their Blount County home
May 20, 2013 20:14 GMT

LOUISVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- The Blount (blunt) County sheriff's office says preliminary results of autopsies on the bodies of a couple found dead in their home in Louisville (LEW'-ihs-vil) show their deaths are consistent with murder-suicide.

Marian O'Briant said in an email that it appears 54-year-old Steven Adkins shot 53-year-old Rebecca Adkins, then shot himself.

O'Briant said a family member found the bodies Sunday night. It wasn't clear how long they had been dead.
