WBFF Fox 45 :: Hit and Run Claims Life of 25 Year Old Man, Driver Still at Large
We have an update tonight on a fatal hit and run we brought to you as BREAKING NEWS last night. Police have revealed the victim's name and say the driver who hit him and kept going is still on the loose. Investigators say 25 year old Calvin Thomas was crossing Old Hickory Boulevard in South Nashville when he was hit by a truck. Although the driver of the truck took off, part of the vehicle's front grill was left at the accident scene.

"There are skid marks prior to impact to indicate the driver tried to avoid the collision," says Metro Police's Mark Denton. "There's light and dark patches up and down the street, so it's likely that he didn't see him until the last second."

Police believe the vehicle involved is a white Chevy pickup. If you have any information about the truck or the driver, call Metro Police at 862.8600.

2 appellate court judges are stepping down
May 24, 2013 21:29 GMT

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Two Tennessee appellate court judges have notified Gov. Bill Haslam that they will not run for another term on the bench in the August 2014 retention election.

Patricia J. Cottrell, a judge on the Court of Appeals, and Joseph M. Tipton, who sits on the Court of Criminal Appeals bench, will both leave after September of next year.

The announcements come after the state legislature left Tennessee without a way to replace judges who step down or die when a commission expires at the end of next month.

Members of the soon-to-be-defunct Judicial Nominating Commission will make recommendations for replacements to give to Haslam before the panel expires. Haslam will appoint the replacements from those recommendations.
