Winter weather is making for a huge mess on roads across Middle Tennessee. More than 60 accidents Saturday morning forced the closure of I-24 in Rutherford County between mile marker 70 and 80. That interstate has since reopened. A deadly crash on I-24 at South Church Street is being blamed on icy roads. The Rutherford County Sheriff's Department has called in deputies to handle the wrecks. In Williamson County, the I-65 North off ramp of Cool Springs Boulevard was for a short time as well. The hazardous road conditions were caused by the aftermath of a wintry mix which moved through the Mid-State. The mix included snow, sleet and freezing rain. The entire area is under a winter weather advisory until 6 pm Saturday night. The Skywatch Weather team is monitoring weather conditions.

Houston brother will be his own attorney in court

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A Roane County man will face federal gun violation charges next month without an attorney.
The Knoxville News Sentinel (http://bit.ly/17VlXpM ) reported Rocky Joe Houston will represent himself on a charge of possession of a gun by a felon.
The charge came after Houston earlier represented himself in state court on charges stemming from a police chase. He was convicted of evading arrest and reckless endangerment.
Houston and his brother, Leon Houston, were tried, but not convicted, in the 2006 shooting deaths of a Roane County deputy and his ride-along companion.
In federal court, Rocky Joe Houston is claiming the officer who charged him with the felony had no legal authority.
