WBFF Fox 45 :: IT Shortage
In Williamson County, teachers are trying to get kids hooked early..

Keith Steffens/ IT Instructor
The opportunities are just through the roof.

Opportunites in IT.... Information Technology.

Matt Largen/ Williamson County Economic Development
There are 850 open IT jobs in the Nashville region right now.

850!!!!!  A number that's only expected to grow with huge companies like  Nissan,  Dell,   HP,  Amazon,   Community Health Systems,   HCA  and many, many  more located here.

Largen says:  We know from talking to companies it's the single biggest work force issue that they're having.

Keith Steffens/ IT Instructor
Companies even have to go out of the country to get people to fill these positions and that's just not right.. that's just not right..

What is right is what Williamson County schools are doing about it....
opening  up IT classes as early as 8th grade, even mailing students this letter encouraging them to give IT a try.

Steffens says:  7:18:28 Everyone thinks they're looking for the people with the tape on the middle of the glasses and 14 pens in their pocket. And all you have to do is stop and think that's just not really it.

Stacy Case:    The real attention getter is the money you can make in this field.   Starting salaries average $70K a year and some college grads even start out making 6 figures.

Taylor Kelsey/ Independence High School student
There's so many job opportunities and it's an industry that's only going to keep getting bigger.

IT is a broad umbrella that basically deals with the movement, storage or processing of data... Students could get a job in anything from coding, to programming to managing  social media and more.

Chris Hebert/ Independence High School student
With today's economy, most people, it's a question of whether or not they'll get a job. And it's nice to have the guarantee.

Former Dyer County constable sentenced to prison
May 23, 2013 12:50 GMT

DYERSBURG, Tenn. (AP) -- Former Dyer County Constable Derick Shane Hundley has been sentenced to 25 years in federal prison.

The State Gazette (http://bit.ly/14UHydd ) reported Hundley was sentenced Monday after earlier entering a guilty plea to enticement of a minor through electronic means. The government dropped a child pornography count.

Prosecutors said Hundley, who is 30, used a cellphone to try to entice a minor female to have sex with him. Police arrested Hundley last July and found an external hard drive that contained numerous images of minors involved in sex. He resigned from the constable post he had won in 2010 after his arrest.
