A meningitis outbreak continues to cause infection and claim lives in Tennessee. The State Health Department now confirms 35 cases of fungal meningitis. Four of those infected have died. The FDA and the CDC have traced the outbreak to epidural steroid injection medication from the New England Compounding Center. State Health Officials have set up five operations centers across the state to take calls and track infections. While the numbers continue to rise, Tennessee Health Commissioner, Dr. John Dreyzehner says the meningitis outbreak has been contained. Unlike other forms of meningitis, fungal meningitis is not spread from person to person. Health officials estimate a thousand patients in Tennessee were exposed through contaminated steroid injections. Its believed all but a handful of patients have been contacted about the potential risk.

Haslam's chief deputy Claude Ramsey to retire

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Gov. Bill Haslam says chief deputy Claude Ramsey is retiring at the end of August to spend more time with his family in Chattanooga.
The Republican governor said in a news release on Wednesday that the 70-year-old Ramsey has been integral to his administration on key initiatives that include civil service reform, economic development efforts, workforce development training and improved operation of state government.
Ramsey was elected to the General Assembly in 1972 where he served four years in the House. He was Hamilton County's mayor for 16 years.
His last day on the job is August 31.
