WBFF Fox 45 :: League of Women Voters, NAACP: Election Commission Failed Davidson Co. Voters
The election may be over but the complaints are not. A coalition of groups led by Tennessee Citizen Action is finishing a comprehensive report detailing problems at Nashville polling places last week. Volunteer poll watchers joined members of 6 different groups, including the League of Women Voters and the NAACP, outside the Metro Election Commission Monday. They detailed voting problems ranging from running out of provisional ballots used for people whose names aren't on the rolls, to excessive waits, to poor allocation of manpower. These weren't glittering generalities. They had specific examples.

"Paragon Mills School in Antioch, over 2500 registered voters, only 3 machines were allocated to that precinct and one machine operator," says Tennessee Citizen Action's Mary Mancini. "The list of that goes on and on."

The Metro Election Commission will start counting those provisional ballots in the morning. Coming up TONIGHT on FOX17 NEWS, more examples critics say proves election officials failed their primary mission to provide equal access to all eligible voters.

Houston brother will be his own attorney in court
June 18, 2013 13:02 GMT

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A Roane County man will face federal gun violation charges next month without an attorney.

The Knoxville News Sentinel (http://bit.ly/17VlXpM ) reported Rocky Joe Houston will represent himself on a charge of possession of a gun by a felon.

The charge came after Houston earlier represented himself in state court on charges stemming from a police chase. He was convicted of evading arrest and reckless endangerment.

Houston and his brother, Leon Houston, were tried, but not convicted, in the 2006 shooting deaths of a Roane County deputy and his ride-along companion.

In federal court, Rocky Joe Houston is claiming the officer who charged him with the felony had no legal authority.
