WBFF Fox 45 :: Lindsey Lowe's Sudden Outburst Brings Trial to Temporary Halt - Sky Arnold
GALLATIN, Tenn. - An emotional moment in the trial of a Hendersonville mother accused of killing her newborn twins. Lindsey Lowe's sudden outburst brought her trial to a temporary halt Wednesday in Gallatin. The moment came as prosecutors showed text messages between Lowe and the man who fathered her babies. It was not her written words that were the focus in court today. It's what Lowe said in a police videotape about the day the twins died in 2011. Detective Steve Malach recorded the interview, knowing only that a dead body had been found next to Lindsey Lowe's bed. Lowe says she hid the pregnancy because the babies' father may not have been her fiance and then drops a revelation. Lowe says she gave birth to both sons alone on the toilet. At first, Detective Malach questions whether the babies drowned. After over an hour of questioning, Lowe finally admits she smothered them. Lowe's defense questions some of the things Detective Malach said earlier in the interview. Attorney John Pelligrin tried to make the case Lindsey was lead into confessing at a vulnerable time.

"Knowing at that point that she had given birth to twins, you continued with the questioning of Ms. Lowe," says Pelligrin.

Lowe's defense fought hard to have the video tape thrown out of court, saying Lowe was not properly read her Miranda rights. Judge Gay disagreed. Miss. chooses new firm to run Woodville prison
May 18, 2013 20:50 GMT

WOODVILLE, Miss. (AP) -- Mississippi officials have picked a new company to run the Wilkinson County Correctional Facility.

Utah-based Management and Training Corp. announced Friday that the Mississippi Department of Corrections has chosen it to run the 1,000-bed prison starting July 1, the Natchez Democrat reports (http://bit.ly/10MvOGv).

Corrections Corporation of America, based in Nashville, Tenn., had run the prison since 1998. MTC says it will keep "the vast majority" of employees.

MTC will get a five-year contract to run the prison with two one-year options. Last year, officials chose MTC to take over East Mississippi Correctional Facility, the Walnut Grove Correctional Facility and the Marshall County Correctional Facility from the GEO Group. MTC won 10-year contracts for each.

CCA still runs the Tallahatchie County Correctional Facility and the Adams County Correctional Center in Mississippi.
