WBFF Fox 45 :: Man Picks Up Nashville Middle School Girl From Bus Stop, Allegedly Sexually Assaults Her
A 54-year-old man was arrested by Metro Police after allegedly touching and soliciting a Nashville middle school child.
According to police documents, the victim's first encounter with Joseph Newsome was at a bus stop on Nov. 9, 2012. He offered her a ride and she got in. Newsome took her to her school without incident.
On a second occasion on Nov. 12, he again offered her a ride. This time, however, Newsome allegedly sexually assaulted her.  he also stated that he would like to be her "sugar daddy" and offered to buy her a cell phone.
The victim reported the incident once she got into school.
The mother was able to get the tag of Newsome's vehicle and police interviewed him. Newsome admitted to giving the rides, but denied touching the child.
Newsome is being held in the Davidson County Jail on $25,000 bond for solicitation of a minor/statutory rape.Man Picks Up Nashville Middle School Girl From Bus Stop, Allegedly Sexually Assaults Her

2 appellate court judges are stepping down
May 24, 2013 21:29 GMT

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Two Tennessee appellate court judges have notified Gov. Bill Haslam that they will not run for another term on the bench in the August 2014 retention election.

Patricia J. Cottrell, a judge on the Court of Appeals, and Joseph M. Tipton, who sits on the Court of Criminal Appeals bench, will both leave after September of next year.

The announcements come after the state legislature left Tennessee without a way to replace judges who step down or die when a commission expires at the end of next month.

Members of the soon-to-be-defunct Judicial Nominating Commission will make recommendations for replacements to give to Haslam before the panel expires. Haslam will appoint the replacements from those recommendations.
