WBFF Fox 45 :: Metro Officer Assaulted During Traffic Stop in S. Nashville
A Metro Police officer was dragged several feet and injured after being hit in the face after trying to pull over an individual during a traffic stop in south Nashville last night.
Roshaun Jones, 26, was pulled over for not wearing a seatbelt at Thompson Lane and Patricia Drive, according to police reports. After the officer smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle and found Jones to not have a drivers license, he asked him to step from the vehicle. Jones refused and the officer called for backup.
Jones again refused to get out when additional officers arrived, and they attempted to remove him from the vehicle. Jones started his vehicle and put the car in drive, dragging an officer several feet.
The officer was able to put the vehicle in park and remove the keys, but Jones pushed the officer away forcefully, swung at him, and laid on his back and kicked him in the face several times with his feet.
Officers were able to place Jones in handcuffs. Thirty grams of marijuana was found in Jones' pocket.
Jones is being held in the Davidson County Jail on $112,000.Metro Officer Assaulted During Traffic Stop in S. Nashville

Courthouse in line for repairs, updates
May 25, 2013 15:50 GMT

MANCHESTER, Tenn. (AP) -- Officials in Coffee County are looking to update their historic courthouse instead of replacing the 141-year-old structure.

After all, they said the building is in pretty good shape. As far as repairs, it just needs some new paint and molding, as well as work to repair some water damage. But county maintenance director Robert Gilliam says the entire structure needs updating in order to make it last until the next century.

Gilliam and County Mayor David Pennington told the Chattanooga Times Free Press (http://bit.ly/19ivpQ6 ) that officials have taken care to maintain the building and it hasn't had any major renovations in decades.

Historical society spokeswoman Joanna Lewis said the group is trying to come up with fundraising ideas for the project.
