WBFF Fox 45 :: Neighbor Forced to Write Check for $10,000
An elderly man was robbed of $10,000 in west Nashville by three people.
The suspect, 41-year-old Mark Crawford, robbed his neighbor yesterday on Watts Terrace with the help of two accomplices, according to Metro police. Crawford and the others went to the victim to supposedly talk rental properties, but when the victim stated that he didn't have any, that's when the real motive became known.
The unknown suspect told the victim to sit down and write him a check for $30,000, according to the affidavit. The victim told him that he doesn't have that kind of money, so he was told to write it for ten grand, which the victim did.
The neighbor drove to a nearby Regions Bank to cash the check while the other two stayed with the victim. The bank even called the victim to verify that the check was good. He was forced to say yes. Shortly after this, the unwelcome house guests left.
Police later caught up with Crawford on Clayton Street where he was found wearing no shirt and no shoes with the statement that he was just let out of the trunk of a car and dropped off on the side of the road. Crawford claimed that the other two suspects threatened the lives of his children if he didn't cash the check. However, Crawford's story changed numerous times.
Crawford still claims to not know any of the suspects full names.
Crawford is being held on $80,000 bond for one count of robbery.

SMYRNA, Tenn. (AP) -- Authorities say a body has been found in Percy Priest Lake in Middle Tennessee.

WSMV-TV (http://bit.ly/16gYKys) reports officials with Metro Police, the Office of Emergency Management and Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency were at the scene Saturday at Hole In The Wall Island. The body was reported to authorities about 11 a.m.

TWRA officials say they believe the deceased man is a boater who disappeared in the lake two weeks ago.

Police said the agencies coordinated with each other to get a boat in the water and recover the body.
