The State Education Department is making good on a threat to withhold $3.4 in funding from Metro Schools. Its the penalty for the District's refusal to approve a state approved charter application for Great Hearts Academies. The dispute has Metro Council Members inquiring about a little know state law that allows parents to take over under performing public schools. The so called "Trigger" Law requires a petition signed by sixty percent of parents or teachers asking to convert to a charter school. The provision would then have to be approved by the local school district. Metro Council Member Emily Evans says while no specific schools are being targeted for take-over she's hearing from parents across the district. Officials say the little know law has been on the books for years but has never been used to start a new charter school.

Couple's bodies found in their Blount County home

LOUISVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- The Blount (blunt) County sheriff's office says preliminary results of autopsies on the bodies of a couple found dead in their home in Louisville (LEW'-ihs-vil) show their deaths are consistent with murder-suicide.
Marian O'Briant said in an email that it appears 54-year-old Steven Adkins shot 53-year-old Rebecca Adkins, then shot himself.
O'Briant said a family member found the bodies Sunday night. It wasn't clear how long they had been dead.
