"The motive in this case appears to be drug related," says Metro Police Department's Don Aaron.
The Sullivans were found stabbed to death October 22. Police believe illegal activity played a role in their deaths.
"The Police Department determined that the Sullivans were dealing or selling drugs from their residence," says Aaron. "The drugs appearing to be pills, probably pain killers and marijuana."
The motive is a shock to neighbors.
"I really don't know what to think," says neighbor Vanessa Lindquist. "They were probably the nicest people I ever had the pleasure of being neighbors with. They always had little kids running around. I never would have thought."
"I never would have suspected," says neighbor Heidi Espe. "We walk by here all the time and they seemed like nice people. It's kind of shocking."
Police say DNA evidence linked Lorenzo Jenkins to the crime scene. The convicted felon had received 17 years of suspended sentences since 2004 for crimes including Aggravated Burglary, Robbery and Theft.
"It's frustrating from our standpoint," says Metro Police Department Commander Marlene Pardue.
While the arrest is a relief, neighbors are still saddened by the loss of a family.
"Very happy but very sad about them being gone," says neighbor Holly Villa.
"It's hard to keep looking out and seeing the Halloween decorations out and no more life left in the house," says Lindquist.
Lorenzo Jenkins was in the Sumner County Jail on separate Burglary and felony Theft charges when Metro Police charged him with murder. The investigation into the triple homicide is continuing.
