A Memphis community and its football players mourning the death of one of their own. A Millington Central High School football player died during practice Tuesday after taking a hard hit to the chest. Sophomore Dana Payne died on the way to the hospital. Family members, friends and coaches gathered to pay their respects last night. Sources tell our FOX affiliate in Memphis that they were able to revive Payne on the field, but he died on the way to the hospital. Superintendent John Aitkin made the announcement about the tragedy at a Shelby County Board of Education meeting last night and got a little choked up.
"Just got word that one of our football players in Millington has sustained an injury and we're going to head on down there," said Aitkin. "We appreciate your thoughts and prayers."
The meeting was quickly adjourned after that. No word yet on whether Payne had any underlying medical conditions.

Witness rescues toddler from railroad tracks

ROCKWOOD, Tenn. (AP) -- Authorities have arrested the parents of a toddler found alone on railroad tracks in Rockwood.
The Knoxville News Sentinel (http://bit.ly/1asg9U3 ) cited an officer's report which said a witness saw the 2-year-old on the rails and picked him up shortly before a train came through the town on Saturday.
Jonathan Noah White, who is 30, and 24-year-old Rahab Jaramillo were arrested and booked into the Roane County Jail on charges of aggravated child abuse and neglect.
The incident report states the child's grandmother told police the boy was often left with her, but she was on "too many medications" to watch him. The boy was put into Department of Children's Services custody.
