WBFF Fox 45 :: Promises of a Compromise on the Fiscal Cliff
Several local lawmakers are optimistic a deal can be reached soon, but they say stopping the fiscal cliff isn't what the country should be worried about. Congressman Jim Cooper and Senators Lamar Alexander and Bob Corker all believe the fiscal cliff impasse will be resolved soon, possibly by the end of the year, but they say the real issue is what that deal won't include.

"Number one the debt ceiling increase," says Congressman Cooper. "Without that America is crippled and without that we shut down government and lower our credit rating."

Congressman Cooper says the country desperately needs to address that issue along with tax reform and entitlement spending. Both Tennessee Senators also discussed a need for entitlement spending control today. They're worried about the future when Medicare may not take in enough to pay its bills.

"The President needs to do as good a job letting the American people know about the Medicare fiscal cliff as he has done in persuading the American people that it's a good idea to tax the rich," says US Senator Lamar Alexander.

Both Senators are now sponsoring a bill that would tie an increase in the debt ceiling to spending cuts for programs like Medicare. Among their proposals to make those cuts: raise the Medicare eligibility age incrementally from 65 to 67 by the year 2027.Promises of a Compromise on the Fiscal Cliff

May 25, 2013 20:14 GMT

SMYRNA, Tenn. (AP) -- Authorities say a body has been found in Percy Priest Lake in Middle Tennessee.

WSMV-TV (http://bit.ly/16gYKys) reports officials with Metro Police, the Office of Emergency Management and Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency were at the scene Saturday at Hole In The Wall Island. The body was reported to authorities about 11 a.m.

TWRA officials say they believe the deceased man is a boater who disappeared in the lake two weeks ago.

Police said the agencies coordinated with each other to get a boat in the water and recover the body.
