WBFF Fox 45 :: Racist Rant Draws Attention To Reserve Coopertown Officer
Coopertown Mayor Sam Childs says he doesn't believe a reserve officer who was caught on a patrol camera  using the n-word is racist.

Video obtained by Fox 17 News Tuesday shows officer Robert McCormick using the racist slur while complaining about a May traffic stop involving a black driver and how mayor Childs handled that driver's complaint.

"Here he's done made love to this damn (expletive) who lives in Springfield, don't even live in Coopertown," said McCormick.

The reserve officer then went on in the video to joke about tasing and pistol whipping that black driver.

Mayor Childs says McCormick is still on the job because he believes the racist rant was less about bigotry and
more about anger towards his boss.

Childs says he reprimanded McCormick after the traffic stop and even  made the entire department go through sensitivity training.

"I give everybody a second chance almost," said Childs.  "I don't really think the guy is a racist.  I think the situations that occurred was unfortunate."

Former Dyer County constable sentenced to prison
May 23, 2013 12:50 GMT

DYERSBURG, Tenn. (AP) -- Former Dyer County Constable Derick Shane Hundley has been sentenced to 25 years in federal prison.

The State Gazette (http://bit.ly/14UHydd ) reported Hundley was sentenced Monday after earlier entering a guilty plea to enticement of a minor through electronic means. The government dropped a child pornography count.

Prosecutors said Hundley, who is 30, used a cellphone to try to entice a minor female to have sex with him. Police arrested Hundley last July and found an external hard drive that contained numerous images of minors involved in sex. He resigned from the constable post he had won in 2010 after his arrest.
