WBFF Fox 45 :: Rascall Flatts Sings to Sick Kids at Hospital
Normally Rascal Glatts sings to sold out arenas. After all, they are the
top selling group of the last decade, but Tuesday morning their
audience was much smaller.

"Music is one of her favorite things,
even though not verbal she will ahh along with music. That was fun to
watch" says Felicia Adkins about her daughter Makayla.

The Flatts played for a room full of sick patients and their families at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital.
Their mission - to give everyone a break from their hospital room and a chance to smile - even if just for a moment!

"This is the first time shes been happy in 5 days. It's a blessing today" says Lisa Cahill about her daughter Abbey.

"Music
is healing, we've learned that with what we do, but just to put joy in
heart and smile on face we've done our job today" says JoeDon Rooney of
Rascal Flatts.

With every IV, every wheel chair, every tiny
bandage, there is a story of a child fighting for their life and no one
shares their pain more than Ann Fuller.

"My son AJ has been battling brain cancer 5 years. Out of 5 years he was clean 2 years and it came back" says Fuller.

Fuller asked the Flatts to sing "Here Comes Goodbye" in honor of her
ten year old son AJ, who is too sick to come down and enjoy the party

"He battled 27 months longer than he was suppose to now we have about one week left, give or take" she says.

    The Olsen family can sympathize.

Ten year old Mark Olsen has high risk leukemia and children's hospital
has been home on and off since he was diagnosed in April.

"I don't feel good about it but I accept what happened" says Mark.

Normally Mark says he feels a lot of pain, "I get some nerve pain in my
chest" he says. But not on Tuesday. Not only did the flatts sing the
song mark requested - he got to sing along with them!

"I forget all about my cancer, about everything" says Mark.

"That was an amazing moment! I am a very proud mom right now" says Marks mom Rosie.

While it's hard to beat these smiles .. Gary, JoeDon and Jay say the reward is two fold.

"This
is what we are most proud of in our career. Awards shows pale by
comparrision to this when you come face to face with people you directly
effect that is why we continue to do it" says Jay DeMarcus.

 And
while her son can't be here to enjoy this moment, Ann Fuller says  it
makes her heart smile knowing that folks like the Flatts help not only
ease the pain, but provide the finances needed to help find a cure.

Man pleads guilty to Memphis officer's murder
May 21, 2013 22:22 GMT

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- A former death row inmate is set to be released from prison after he pleaded guilty to second-degree murder of a Memphis police officer.

Shelby County District Attorney Amy Weirich said Tuesday that she has accepted Timothy McKinney's guilty plea.

McKinney was convicted of first-degree murder for the fatal shooting of Officer Don Williams. The officer was killed outside a comedy club in December 1997.

McKinney appealed and won a new trial, which ended with a deadlocked jury. A third trial earlier this year also ended in a hung jury.

The Commercial Appeal reports that McKinney was sentenced to 15 years in prison. Since he's already served more than 15 years -- including 11 on death row -- McKinney will be released this week.

Williams' family opposed the settlement.
