WBFF Fox 45 :: St. Patrick's Day Adds to SEC Excitement Downtown - John Dunn
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - What a week for downtown Nashville. SEC basketball fans have taken over Music City. St. Patrick's Day is only adding to the excitement downtown. We have seen thousands of SEC fans downtown Thursday. They're cheering on their teams and enjoying Music City. Nashville will be a busy place over the next few days. Not only is the tournament in town, but a St. Patrick's Day block party is now being planned for the weekend. A section of Broadway between 3rd and 4th Avenues will be closed for the celebration. It could lead to a few traffic headaches, but fans we talked to say it only adds to the atmosphere.

"It adds to it," says basketball fan Cora Wayman. "Completely adds to it, we didn't even know it was going on, so now we're even more excited to be here. So yeah, we will be here Saturday to have some St. Patty's fun."

"It's always fun to watch the people," says Missouri fan Toni Peterson. "When there is a lot of people drinking form early morning, it's fun to watch what they're doing."

The road closure on Broadway doesn't begin until 7am Saturday. The SEC Tournament will still be in town. A champion won't be crowned until Sunday.

Tennessee recoups unemployment benefits
May 22, 2013 20:26 GMT

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- State Labor Department officials say they have recouped about $15.3 million worth of fraudulently collected unemployment benefits by garnishing tax refunds and other federal payments to people who were not entitled to receive the assistance.

A scathing audit released earlier this year showed that the state overpaid $73 million in unemployment benefits. The overpayments were the result of both fraud and errors at the Department of Labor and Workforce Development. The audit was especially critical of the department's method for recouping fraudulent benefits.

Acting Department of Labor and Workforce Development Commissioner Burns Phillips said in a statement that the ability to reclaim fraudulently collected unemployment benefits is critical to the business community. He said the department is focused on developing strategies to prevent people from wrongfully collecting the assistance.
