Police searched all morning for 40-year-old Donnell Simpson after he allegedly stabbed his wife near Forest Breeze Drive. Lena Simpson, 37, told police Donnell attacked her with a knife and stabbed her in the chest around 12:30 Tuesday morning. Ronald Simpson, Lena's husband, grabbed his brother and wrestled him away, according to statement from police. During the ensuing struggle, Donnell ran away. Ronald then drove his wife, with the knife still in her right chest, to Southern Hills Medical Center.
In another incident just 20 minutes later, Donnell Simpson went to his wife's Forest Breeze Drive home despite an active order of protection. Witnesses told police that Donnell Simpson punched Marqueta Simpson, 31, in the face at least twice before retrieving a box cutter from his pocket. He stabbed her several times and then dragged her toward the front door.
Metro Police Officers searched for Donnell Simpson through the night until Officer Shaw spotted him this morning. Our cameras were there rolling as police officers took Simpson into custody.
Tuesday morning was not Donnell's first run in police this week. Just the day before, Monday, Donnell was arrested on charges of aggravated assault and violating an order of protection obtained by his wife on Sunday. His wife, Marqueta, claims Donnell threw a brick through her car window. Donnell was booked into jail at 4:45 Monday afternoon. Just a few hours later, around 9:15 p.m. he posted $5,000 bail.
Marqueta Simpson is listed in stable condition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Lena Simpson has been released from the hospital.
In addition to the attempted murder charges, Donnell Simpson is also being charged with violating the conditions of his bond and again violating the order of protection. Simpson's bail is now set at $2,050,000.

Man facing extradition for murder claims innocence
June 17, 2013 20:24 GMT
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) -- A former U.S. Marine facing extradition to the Philippines on double murder charges says he is innocent.
Timothy Kaufman has been in jail since his arrest in April at business near his grandfather's Albany-area home. The 35-year-old from Knoxville, Tenn., is one of three men charged by Philippine authorities with killing a retired Northern Ireland police officer and his girlfriend in 2011.
Authorities claim it was a premeditated killing in an area known for its sometimes-seamy club scene.
In a handwritten letter sent to the media from jail, Kaufman says he would never do something as "heinous and stupid" as killing the couple. He says he left the country after the killings because he feared for his safety.
An extradition hearing is scheduled for June 25 in Albany federal court.
