WBFF Fox 45 :: Tennessee Leading the Way for Sandy Recovery Efforts
Over 2 million people are without power tonight, and with the amount of damage this storm has done, there will be a huge need for help to recover. Tennessee is leading the way. Folks who want to fly to the East Coast will not have much luck right now. 23 flights from Nashville to the affected areas have been cancelled today, but that is not stopping Brentwood volunteers who want to help storm victims. Members of Hope Force International are loaded up and ready to respond.

"Whole bin full of tie downs," says Hope Force International's Alexander Bashor. "Always need tied down water behind dusk masks, tarps. Shovels and brooms. Paper towels, crackers and water, things you need without power for several days."

Hope Force International has 1200 volunteers around the country. The group has responded to tornadoes and disasters in Haiti, Louisiana, Joplin, Missouri and Alabama. Volunteers are trained on the best ways to help homeowners with flood remediation and wind damage.

"For instance, if flood comes in at 2 feet, we go in 18 inches, remove drywall, insulation," says Hope Force International's Jack Minton. "Sometimes the overzealous take too much. Hard wood can be saved. Certain techniques like that, a little leverage of knowledge makes a big difference, so we try to pass that along."

The team from Hope Force will stage in Ashville, Virginia, then they'll move into some of the heaviest hit areas of New York and New Jersey. May 25, 2013 20:14 GMT

SMYRNA, Tenn. (AP) -- Authorities say a body has been found in Percy Priest Lake in Middle Tennessee.

WSMV-TV (http://bit.ly/16gYKys) reports officials with Metro Police, the Office of Emergency Management and Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency were at the scene Saturday at Hole In The Wall Island. The body was reported to authorities about 11 a.m.

TWRA officials say they believe the deceased man is a boater who disappeared in the lake two weeks ago.

Police said the agencies coordinated with each other to get a boat in the water and recover the body.
