WBFF Fox 45 :: TN Health Officials: Encouraging News on the Fungal Meningitis Outbreak
Tennessee state health officials say they can see the "light at the end of the tunnel" for the Meningitis outbreak. The CDC says the main risk for a patient's death is within 42 days after the injection. Here in Tennessee only a few hundred patients are within that time frame. All of them will be beyond the danger zone by November 8th. Health Officials also say they are getting better at identifying the infection earlier. Nine people in Tennessee have died due to tainted steroid injections to relieve back pain. There are a total of 70 cases in the state. Nationally, 24 people have died with 317 total cases. The tainted medicine came from a drug compounding company near Boston. The New England Compounding Center  has now closed down and recalled all its medicine.TN Health Officials: Encouraging News on the Fungal Meningitis Outbreak

2 appellate court judges are stepping down
May 24, 2013 21:29 GMT

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Two Tennessee appellate court judges have notified Gov. Bill Haslam that they will not run for another term on the bench in the August 2014 retention election.

Patricia J. Cottrell, a judge on the Court of Appeals, and Joseph M. Tipton, who sits on the Court of Criminal Appeals bench, will both leave after September of next year.

The announcements come after the state legislature left Tennessee without a way to replace judges who step down or die when a commission expires at the end of next month.

Members of the soon-to-be-defunct Judicial Nominating Commission will make recommendations for replacements to give to Haslam before the panel expires. Haslam will appoint the replacements from those recommendations.
