WBFF Fox 45 :: TN Pharmacy Board Revokes License in Steroid Case

Associated Press

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- The Tennessee Board of Pharmacy has effectively revoked the license of the pharmacy that distributed injectable steroids suspected of causing a deadly outbreak of fungal meningitis.

In an emergency meeting on Monday, the board voted 7-0 to accept the voluntary surrender of the New England Compounding Center's license.

Department of Health attorney John Smith said the action has the same effect as a revocation and is understood to be a formal disciplinary action.

Board members questioned why action was not taken more quickly. They also expressed concern that the pharmacist in charge of the facility is still licensed in Tennessee.

Smith said the pharmacist, Barry Cadden, has also agreed to surrender his license. Smith expects to call another emergency meeting once the details of that agreement are worked out.

Houston brother will be his own attorney in court
June 18, 2013 13:02 GMT

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A Roane County man will face federal gun violation charges next month without an attorney.

The Knoxville News Sentinel (http://bit.ly/17VlXpM ) reported Rocky Joe Houston will represent himself on a charge of possession of a gun by a felon.

The charge came after Houston earlier represented himself in state court on charges stemming from a police chase. He was convicted of evading arrest and reckless endangerment.

Houston and his brother, Leon Houston, were tried, but not convicted, in the 2006 shooting deaths of a Roane County deputy and his ride-along companion.

In federal court, Rocky Joe Houston is claiming the officer who charged him with the felony had no legal authority.
