Update: We now know the name of a man killed in a hit and run accident
in South Nashville Thursday night . Metro police say the victim is 25
year old Calvin Thomas of Smyrna. Thomas was hit by a truck at 15388 Old
Hickory Boulevard as he was trying to cross the street. Thomas was
pronounced dead at the scene. Metro Police say the possible suspect
vehicle is a white truck with body damage. Part of its bumper and
undercarriage were left at the scene. Police are investigating. Anyone with information should call police at 862-8600.

Memphis suburbs to hold school referendum July 16

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- All six Memphis suburbs have set a July 16 date to hold referendums on establishing municipal school systems.
WMC-TV (http://bit.ly/11jsNCA) reports the Shelby County Election Commission approved the date during a meeting on Friday. The action came after all six suburbs passed ordinances calling for a referendum on the issue on that date.
Residents in the communities voted last year to approve the municipal school districts, but a judge struck the decisions down.
Tennessee lawmakers passed legislation this year lifts a ban on municipalities forming their own districts, clearing the way for another vote.
