If your home loses power, many of you will turn to portable heaters for warmth. The U.S. Fire Administration wants to make sure you're using them safely. Each year there are 900 fires caused by portable heaters, leading to 70 deaths and 150 injuries. Here are some ways you can keep your family safe. Turn heaters off when you go to bed or leave a room. Keep them away from bedding and curtains which could lead to fire. Check your cords to make sure there's no broken wires. When it comes to winter weather, there are ways to prepare. Man charged with faking marriage to visit inmate

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) -- Washington County authorities say a man faked a marriage certificate so he could visit a woman held in the Johnson City Detention Facility.
The Johnson City Press (http://bit.ly/14QBr9L ) reports investigators discovered the ruse after the May 14 visit by 32-year-old Robert S. Hicks of Elizabethton. Hicks was arrested Tuesday on a charge of criminal simulation. He was jailed at the Washington County Detention Center in lieu of $10,000 bond, pending a court appearance Wednesday.
