WBFF Fox 45 :: U.S. Women's Soccer Team Win Inspires Thousands of Midstate Girls - Eric Alvarez
A record-setting crowd cheered the U.S. Women's Soccer Team to a 3-1 win over Scotland Wednesday at LP Field, capping a great day for thousands of Midstate fans that say playing like a girl is no longer an insult, it's a compliment.

The USA Women s Soccer Team did what the men couldn't in 2012...leave Music City on a high note.

"They showed that the girls soccer team is better than the guys team so girls can actually play soccer too," 13 year old Emily Sosnowski said.  "I think we're actually better."

Sosnowki and her friends braved the cold Nashville air for a chance to see their role models, take on Scotland Wednesday at  LP Field.

"I love the USA soccer team," Sosnowski said.  "I love watching Alex Morgan, Hope Solo and Abby Wambach and Tobin Heath.  I just love the USA team they're really awesome."

It was the first time the team played in Music City since 2004.  On that occasion they beat Canada.  Nine years later the players have changed but the team's success continues.

Eleven-year-old Abigail Williams says one of her favorite players is Abby Wambach, who was voted the best player in the world in January.

On Wednesday, Wambach became the only 8th player to make 200 appearances for team USA and inspired little Abigail to keep playing.

"I'm very excited because I play soccer too," Williams said.

The team is so good in fact, they've even become role models for the guys.

"It's great that they came down here," Ardlan Khalili said.  "You can see a lot of people came out to support USA.  It's just a great thing for Nashville."

Wednesday's game drew 14,224 fans, setting a record for the largest attendance at a women's soccer game in Tennessee history.U.S. Women's Soccer Team Win Inspires Thousands of Midstate Girls - Eric Alvarez
