WBFF Fox 45 :: Arson Arrest Made in Toney Road House Fire
A residential house fire in the early morning hours on July 17 at 403 Toney Road in north Nashville is suspected to be arson and an arrest has been made.
According to police records obtained by FOX 17 News, the resident advised that prior to the fire incident, that himself (Derrick Giles) and Alton Wyatt had a dispute of some missing money and a key that went to Wyatt's home and that a short time after the dispute ended, Giles heard a noise outside of his home.
Giles stated that he could see flames reflecting off of the neighbors residence and then he went to the back rear of the residence to find the house on fire. Giles stated that he saw Wyatt there in the backyard and began to flee the property. Giles stated that while he was running after Wyatt, that Wyatt was attempting to throw some type of liquid from a container onto Giles. The container was later discovered outside the home of Wyatt in the driveway with a strong odor of gasoline.
Wyatt, 56, is being held on $75,000 bond in the Davidson County Jail.Arson Arrest Made in Toney Road House Fire

Man pleads guilty to Memphis officer's murder
May 21, 2013 22:22 GMT

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- A former death row inmate is set to be released from prison after he pleaded guilty to second-degree murder of a Memphis police officer.

Shelby County District Attorney Amy Weirich said Tuesday that she has accepted Timothy McKinney's guilty plea.

McKinney was convicted of first-degree murder for the fatal shooting of Officer Don Williams. The officer was killed outside a comedy club in December 1997.

McKinney appealed and won a new trial, which ended with a deadlocked jury. A third trial earlier this year also ended in a hung jury.

The Commercial Appeal reports that McKinney was sentenced to 15 years in prison. Since he's already served more than 15 years -- including 11 on death row -- McKinney will be released this week.

Williams' family opposed the settlement.
