WBFF Fox 45 :: Stewart County Squashes School Uniform Rumor
You can call it uniform--misinformed in Stewart County.
The school district there is throwing cold water on a hot rumor about how students are required to dress for school.
Along with vaccinations and everything else that comes along with getting a student ready for school... There is one thing parents of Stewart County Students will not have to worry about...uniforms.....
Parent, Amie Lehman says, “I saw it on Facebook actually.”
But Stewart County School Administration says the rumors about a uniform requirement this year – are false.
Mike Craig says, “With the Facebook and other social media it spread like wildfire.”
Stewart county high school principal mike Craig even used facebook to dispel the rumor.
He believes the confusion came during efforts to explain the new dress code for Tennessee schools passed by state lawmakers.
Mike Craig says, “We sent out a school reach call to all of our students and parents and I guess they thought- they heard the word dress code and they immediately thought uniforms- but that is not the case.”
Parents in Stewart County are divided on the issue.
Earl Wallace says, “If everybody would wear proper attire it would be ok but you've got a lot of kids wanting to wear their britches down around their behind and their caps backwards and all this Goth stuff.”
Amie Lehman says, “It really doesn't bother me either way I prefer that the children be able to express themselves by not having uniforms but I think that is minor compared to all the other stuff that we have to worry about.”
Craig says if school uniforms are ever considered parents, students and staff will be included in the decision process.
School officials hope a meeting with parents at Stewart county high school library at 6:00pm Thursday will help clear up the misconceptions and will discuss the dress code in place.

Houston brother will be his own attorney in court
June 18, 2013 13:02 GMT

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A Roane County man will face federal gun violation charges next month without an attorney.

The Knoxville News Sentinel (http://bit.ly/17VlXpM ) reported Rocky Joe Houston will represent himself on a charge of possession of a gun by a felon.

The charge came after Houston earlier represented himself in state court on charges stemming from a police chase. He was convicted of evading arrest and reckless endangerment.

Houston and his brother, Leon Houston, were tried, but not convicted, in the 2006 shooting deaths of a Roane County deputy and his ride-along companion.

In federal court, Rocky Joe Houston is claiming the officer who charged him with the felony had no legal authority.
