A major development in the controversial Murfreesboro mosque dispute. A federal judge overrules a previous decision banning the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro from using its new facility. That ruling means the mosque may be open in time for members to mark an important Islamic observance. Rutherford County Chancellor Robert Corlew barred the Islamic Center from using the mosque. He believed Rutherford County did not give the public enough notice about a public hearing on the project. Some saw that as religious discrimination because the same requirement wasn't imposed on other religious institutions, and Wednesday a federal judge agreed. It's a defeat for mosque opponents like Kevin Fisher, who've spent 2 years trying to prevent this building from being used. He tells us opponents have accomplished something important, even if the mosque is allowed to open.

Haslam's chief deputy Claude Ramsey to retire

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Gov. Bill Haslam says chief deputy Claude Ramsey is retiring at the end of August to spend more time with his family in Chattanooga.
The Republican governor said in a news release on Wednesday that the 70-year-old Ramsey has been integral to his administration on key initiatives that include civil service reform, economic development efforts, workforce development training and improved operation of state government.
Ramsey was elected to the General Assembly in 1972 where he served four years in the House. He was Hamilton County's mayor for 16 years.
His last day on the job is August 31.
