The Islamic Center of Murfreesboro won an important legal battle this week, but it could be another 2 weeks before members can use their mosque. Rutherford County inspectors took a look at the facility this morning. Its contractor tells FOX17 NEWS the mosque is at least 2 weeks away from being ready to apply for an occupancy permit. The building still needs a number of inspections, including electric and water service. Imam Ossama Bahloul says he's still hopeful that timeline can be reduced.
"This is their job and you must express appreciation to them, they want it to be secure and we love this for everyone as well," says Bahloul. "I don't think anything unusual, do we think we have 2 weeks to go, we think less than this."
The congregation hopes to be in the controversial facility during the holy month of Ramadan, which begins tomorrow. Members are observing the holiday with prayers tonight.

Afghan pilots learn air assault tactics from 101st

BAGRAM AIR FIELD, Afghanistan (AP) -- With Afghan troops increasingly leading combat operations on the ground, the Afghan Air Force's fledgling helicopter fleet based in Kabul has learned new techniques to support them from the air.
The U.S. Army's 101st Combat Aviation Brigade started a new training program at Bagram Air Field for Afghan helicopter pilots to learn how to perform air assault missions, which they have started to use in combat operations.
101st Combat Aviation Brigade Commander Col. Paul Bontrager said the Afghans need to be weaned off American aviation during the drawdown of U.S. forces this year.
The ability of Afghan helicopters to quickly drop soldiers into combat is a new and critical role.
