WBFF Fox 45 :: Church Holds Service After Surviving Lightning Strike
Pastor Mike Proctor doesn't usually need a microphone but for Sunday's prayer service he's using one.

His voice has to carry over a bunch of dehumidifiers.

The Trinity Church of the Nazarene has been using them to help dry out a sanctuary that survived what an insurance company would call an act of God.

"It was a loud clap of thunder," said pastor Mike Proctor.  "I felt like it hit the church cause the lights went out for 20 seconds."

Pastor Proctor was right.

That lightning bolt struck the church steeple and caught the building on fire.

Members like Robert Blair were perhaps more dismayed by the water damage that followed when firefighters put the fire out.

"To me it's like home," said Blair. "It was kind of rough.  I was very emotional cause kind of like seeing your home."

That damage stretched from the balcony pews down to the basement rooms where the church holds Sunday School.

Proctor says repairing it all is going to be a challenge.

"There's gonna be some expenses that insurance is not gonna cover.  Hidden costs, electric bill is gonna be high," said Proctor.

Members donated about $1000 to help pay the bills while others donated time to get the church ready for Sunday prayer Blair says has already been answered.

"I told them this morning everyone should say amen because you're able to be in the building.  the building could've burnt completely up," said Blair.

Miss. chooses new firm to run Woodville prison
May 18, 2013 20:50 GMT

WOODVILLE, Miss. (AP) -- Mississippi officials have picked a new company to run the Wilkinson County Correctional Facility.

Utah-based Management and Training Corp. announced Friday that the Mississippi Department of Corrections has chosen it to run the 1,000-bed prison starting July 1, the Natchez Democrat reports (http://bit.ly/10MvOGv).

Corrections Corporation of America, based in Nashville, Tenn., had run the prison since 1998. MTC says it will keep "the vast majority" of employees.

MTC will get a five-year contract to run the prison with two one-year options. Last year, officials chose MTC to take over East Mississippi Correctional Facility, the Walnut Grove Correctional Facility and the Marshall County Correctional Facility from the GEO Group. MTC won 10-year contracts for each.

CCA still runs the Tallahatchie County Correctional Facility and the Adams County Correctional Center in Mississippi.
