WBFF Fox 45 :: Chick-Fil-A Lines Up Midstate Support After Comments Made by CEO
Chick-Fil-A customers pack restaurants here and around the country in a show of support for the company's President's stand on same sex marriage. Things have died down this evening, but these are just a few of dozens of franchises around the country where customers showed up to make a political statement. From Cool Springs to Bowling Green, Kentucky, Chick-Fil-A restaurants saw customers lining up to buy chicken sandwiches. The President of the restaurant chain, Dan Cathy, was criticized for his support of the Biblical definition of a family. Gay rights activists called for boycotts, but supporters made Wednesday Appreciation Day.

"They started out as a Christian company, and they have Christian values and since they started out that way, they have every right to support marriage between a man and a wife, and a woman," says Cool Springs customer Dawn Van Ryckeghen.

"We're not worried about their opinions," says Chris Sanders, Tennessee Equality Project. "It's all the money they're investing in efforts to deprive gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people of their rights."

Supporters of same sex marriage are backing what they call National Same-Sex Kiss Day on Friday. They're encouraging participants to photograph a kiss inside Chick-Fil-A and post it on the internet. By ERIK SCHELZIG Associated Press

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Queen Elizabeth's youngest son, Prince Edward, is visiting Tennessee to promote one of the British royal family's charities, the Duke of Edinburgh's awards.

The prince presided over an awards ceremony at the governor's mansion in Nashville on Thursday for the first batch of young Tennesseans to participate in the leadership and character program.

About 80 youths received the award by participating in community service, skills development, physical fitness and adventurous journeys through the Boy Scouts, Boys and Girls Clubs, LEAD Academy, Montgomery Bell Academy or the Miss Tennessee Scholarship Organization.

Following the event, Gov. Bill Haslam and first lady Crissy Haslam invited the awardees and their families to tea inside the governor's residence. Later on Thursday, the prince was scheduled to headline a black-tie gala at Montgomery Bell Academy in Nashville.
