Gracie Porter is the incumbent for the Metro School Board District 5 race. The Service Employees Union often endorses, but not in this race, because none of the candidates returned their questionnaire. FOX17's Eric Alvarez has been following this race very closely tonight. He's been out with the candidates and joins us with the latest from downtown Nashville. He's at the Jackalope Brewing Company, where the election results party for Elissa Kim is being held. As you can see, a lot of excited and anxious faces because with 12 of the 162 precincts reporting, Kim is ahead of incumbent Gracie Porter. District 5 is one of the smallest in size, but because of its central location, is home to 32 schools altogether. Kim is ahead with 40% of the vote, edging Porter, who got 38%. John Haubenreich is currently in a distant 3rd and Erica Lanier is in 4th.

Haslam's chief deputy Claude Ramsey to retire

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Gov. Bill Haslam says chief deputy Claude Ramsey is retiring at the end of August to spend more time with his family in Chattanooga.
The Republican governor said in a news release on Wednesday that the 70-year-old Ramsey has been integral to his administration on key initiatives that include civil service reform, economic development efforts, workforce development training and improved operation of state government.
Ramsey was elected to the General Assembly in 1972 where he served four years in the House. He was Hamilton County's mayor for 16 years.
His last day on the job is August 31.
