WBFF Fox 45 :: Larry Crim loses lawsuit against Mark Clayton

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A federal judge has refused to void the Tennessee Democratic primary for U.S. Senate won by an anti-gay candidate the party has disavowed.

District Judge Kevin Sharp ruled that the lawsuit filed by losing candidate Larry Crim was improper because it was not filed against an individual.

Crim sued the state Division of Elections and the Tennessee Democratic Party trying to keep the winner of the Aug. 2 primary, Mark Clayton, off the November ballot.

The day after the election, the state Democratic Party said it wanted nothing to do with Clayton. A statement disavowing his campaign said he is a member of an anti-gay hate group and not a real Democrat because he previously voted in only one party primary.

Solar panels that obscure school might be moved
May 24, 2013 13:13 GMT

ROGERSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A wall of solar panels in front of a Surgoinsville school might be moved out back.

The panels are part of an ambitious project under which solar collection panels have been installed at 20 Hawkins County school facilities to cut utility costs and sell back power to TVA.

But the Kingsport Times-News (http://bit.ly/18burcf ) reported the wall of panels at Surgoinsville Middle School has some people worried about school security and others upset at what they see as an eyesore.

The panels are 7 feet high and stretch the length of a football field. They obscure viewing the school.

At a school board work session Thursday, board members talked about moving the array. It can't be voted on until the regular board meeting on June 4.
