Florida Georgia Line started in the halls of a local university and have now gone nationwide
Fox 17 Entertainment Reporter Stacy McCloud has more
Brian Kelley and Tylar Hubbard met through friends at Belmont University.
"We
moved in after graduation, started writing together, worked together
and one thing led to another and Florida Georgia Line was born" says
Brian Kelley.
Little did they know, the chemistry they had would land them a major record deal just three years later.
"It's crazy. We have to force ourselves to take a deep breath, dude that's cool" says Bryan.
Immediately after signing, they released their first single - "Cruise"
In just a few weeks it sold well over 200 thousand copies, has been
listed in the top 20 on itunes country singles chart and top 30 on the
music row breakout chart!
"It think it surprised everyone, I know the day we wrote it we knew we had something special" says Brian.
The video for "Cruise" was shot in Lebanon.
It won't be released for a few more weeks, but they did give us a little sneak peak!
"You can't go wrong with a music video with pretty girls, big trucks" the guys laigh.
Brian and Tylar say they think their sudden success has to do with their unique sound.
"It's
a high energy rock and roll country kinda thing. Little hip hop in
there with a lot of different influences in there" says Tylar.
Wait a second, did he say hip hop?
"It's
Country lyrics that make you bob your head a little bit" says Tylar.
"If it's gonna be fast or slow - your still gonna wanna do that (bobs
head)" laughs Brian.
Right now the guys have a 5 song EP
out, but will be hitting the studio next week to lay vocals for their
debut album that's still to come!
"Our brand of country we wanted to make it our own and not sound like any body else"
No street date is available on that debut album just yet, but the guys
had an exciting evening, they made their Grand Ole Opry debut tonight.
They tell Fox 17 it was like checking the number one item off of their musical bucket list!
