WBFF Fox 45 :: TSU Football Returns to

September 15, 2012

It's a return to hollowed ground on the campus of Tennessee State University.

For the first time in 13 years, a football game was played at Hale Stadium.

Everyone is glad to return to the historic venue, which is affectionately known as "The Hole."

There's a renewed spirit at TSU.

"Where it all started at. It started right here in the Hole. We're going back to the Hole today, baby," says TSU Alumnus Dan Clemmons.

For the first time in 13 years, the TSU Tigers are playing a football game on campus, inside Hale Stadium.

"Electric atmosphere right now, and we're excited to have football back on campus this year, it's awesome," says Miguel Brady with TSU Men's Basketball.

The University spent $1 million to renovate the 61 year old stadium.

There's a new scoreboard, added seating, and a mini-jumbo tron.

After nine months of work, it's finally game day.

"I must commend the administration, and all the people who supported them for the beautiful job they've done this far," says TSU Alumnus Longino Cooke.

Saturday's game brings a large group of alumni. Many remember packing "The Hole" during past decades.

"It's nostalgic, and I'm kind of glad and excited. And it's good to see people seeming excited as well," says TSU Alumna Ruth Young.

"Well it was great then, and as far as I'm concerned, it's great now. I'm glad to be back in the Hole," says TSU Alumnus John Wesley.

Former quarterback Robert Crawford took TSU through an undefeated season in The Hole in 1956.

"You know I want to suit up. I want to suit up. I want to wear the number 15 again," says Crawford.

Saturday's game was all about the current team, which was trying to extend its record to 3 and 0.

The players hope to re-establish the winning ways, on the field where it all began.

"We're just glad to be back in the hole, baby. Glad to be back in the hole!," says Dan Clemmons.

Tennessee State normally plays its home football games at LP Field.

However, they'll play two more games in The Hole, next month.

TSU won Saturday's game 34-14 over Austin Peay.

Miss. chooses new firm to run Woodville prison
May 18, 2013 20:50 GMT

WOODVILLE, Miss. (AP) -- Mississippi officials have picked a new company to run the Wilkinson County Correctional Facility.

Utah-based Management and Training Corp. announced Friday that the Mississippi Department of Corrections has chosen it to run the 1,000-bed prison starting July 1, the Natchez Democrat reports (http://bit.ly/10MvOGv).

Corrections Corporation of America, based in Nashville, Tenn., had run the prison since 1998. MTC says it will keep "the vast majority" of employees.

MTC will get a five-year contract to run the prison with two one-year options. Last year, officials chose MTC to take over East Mississippi Correctional Facility, the Walnut Grove Correctional Facility and the Marshall County Correctional Facility from the GEO Group. MTC won 10-year contracts for each.

CCA still runs the Tallahatchie County Correctional Facility and the Adams County Correctional Center in Mississippi.
