WBFF Fox 45 :: Tobacco Warehouse Fire in Hartsville
Smoke is still coming out of the Holder Tobacco Warehouse in Hartsville where a mid-morning fire damaged as much as 40-percent of the building.  Assistant Hartsville Volunteer Fire Chief Mark Beeler tells Fox 17 News thick black plumes of smoke and flames were shooting from the roof and windows on the North side of the building when the first units arrived about 10:15a.m.  No one was in the building but because of its size fire crews from Sumner, Macon and Smith Counties responded to help contain the fire.  There's no official word on how the fire started but a portion of the roof was reportedly being repaired.  Trousdale County Mayor Jake West tells Fox 17 there was very little tobacco in the building.  He says a firewall kept the flames from spreading to the South side of the hugh structure which is located on Main Street in downtown Hartsville.  At its height, smoke from this fire could be seen from as far away as Carthage in neighboring Smith County.  Fire crews will stay on site until all the hot spots have been extinguished.

Memphis libraries seeking funding
May 25, 2013 13:07 GMT

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- The public library system in Memphis is hoping to secure $2.9 million to add employees and increase its collection.

The Memphis Daily News (http://bit.ly/19BANxH) reports the Memphis Public Library & Information Center cites the figures as part of its strategic plan.

A study by the Friends of the Library and the Memphis Library Foundation found that during the past five years, the system's budget has been cut 21 percent and hours were reduced 20 percent.

The goal of the new funding would be to add 47 employees to the 18-location library system and increase the collections budget to $2 million from less than $1 million.

Library director Keenon McCloy says the plan is a "roadmap for the future."
