Dr. William Shaffner/ Infectious Disease Vanderbilt The antifungal medications we have are very difficult to use. They're toxic drugs. While they're used to treat the infection they can also damage the body particularly the kidney and liver.
Dr David Reagan/ State Health Dept. Just right now the CDC is not recommending prophylacsis and we are not recommending prophylacsis. It looks right now as from our analysis if we identify symptoms early and appropriate treatment is started then the response is good.
The problem is, the fungal meningitis onset, we've now learned is different from bacterial and viral meningitis. The latter two come on suddenly. Fungal meningitis eases on with less severe symptoms INITIALLY.... which may go unnoticed.
Also Monday, health officials revealed the CDC has discovered a second mold, in addition to aspergillus inside this tainted vial. The second mold is Exserohilum doctors are starting to study its role in the sickness.

Tenn. Powerball ticket worth $1 million

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A Powerball ticket sold in Tennessee barely missed winning a share of an estimated $590.5 million prize. But the ticket has a nice consolation prize worth $1 million.
Officials say the Powerball ticket worth $1 million was sold in Chattanooga.
There's no word yet on who won.
A Powerball ticket sold at a supermarket in Zephyrhills, Fla., matched all six numbers selected Saturday night for the estimated $590.5 million prize. It's the highest Powerball jackpot in history.
The winning numbers were 10, 13, 14, 22 and 52, with a Powerball of 11.
