WBFF Fox 45 :: SAVING YOU MONEY: Candy Buy Back, Electricity
Believe it or not, Halloween spending is expected to hit $8 billion. One way to recoup a little of that cash is to sell some of that candy. Several area dentists participate in what's known as a candy buy back. You can take in the candy you don't want and make money on it. To find a dentist near you, go to Fox17.com, click on FOX LINKS and look for CANDY BUY BACK. Dentists then send the candy to Operation Gratitude, which is packed up and sent to U.S. troops overseas.

As we use more energy during cold weather, don't forget to take little steps to save. Turning off your tv and other appliances is great, but unplugging them is even better. That's because standby power or "vampire power" as it's called, keeps the appliance or electronic ready and waiting for you to use it. It can cost the average household $200-$600 a year. That's scary!

You can find all of our SAVING YOU MONEY stories at Fox17.com, and don't forget to share yours too at Facebook.com/FoxNashville, or send FOX17's Stacy Case a message on Facebook or Twitter.

State officials to hold seat belt campaign event
May 24, 2013 08:11 GMT

SPRINGFIELD, Tenn. (AP) -- The Governor's Highway Safety Office plans to announce its "Click It or Ticket" campaign on Friday.

The event is scheduled to take place at 1 p.m. at the Robertson County Courthouse in Springfield.

Nationally, statistics show seat belt use increased significantly in 2012 as compared to 2011 among drivers, right-front passengers and backseat occupants.

However, officials say more than 400 of Tennessee's crash fatalities last year involved unrestrained drivers or passengers.

The Governor's Highway Safety Office urges all motorists to buckle up.
